Professional career
The Lok Sabha record lists his profession as Social Worker and Industrialist.1 He is listed as Vice Chairman of Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA), the Odisha company his father founded in 1961.2
His official biography records involvement with CII, FICCI and the International Chromium Development Association. It also records service as a director of IPICOL and as a member of the Government of Odisha’s Industrial Advisory Committee.3
Public life
Outside Parliament, his official biography records a long association with the India–USA Forum of Parliamentarians, founded in 2001. It says he chaired the Forum for 15 years and served as Convener of a Young Parliamentarians Forum.3 According to the same biography, he has been associated since 2007 with the Citizens’ Alliance Against Malnutrition, a cross-party group of parliamentarians.3
His official biography also records that he received the Bharat Asmita National Award in 2008 for best parliamentary practices. This site found no independent listing of the award to confirm it.3
He is the author of Lutyens’ Maverick (Rupa Publications, 2019) and writes a regular column.

Political journey
He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2000 and to the Lok Sabha in 2009 and 2014 as a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) member. The BJD suspended him in January 2018. He left the party in May 2018, and his Lok Sabha resignation took effect in July 2018.4
He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 4 March 2019 at the party headquarters in New Delhi, in the presence of Amit Shah, then party president.5 Days later he was appointed a National Vice-President and national spokesperson.6 He was retained as a Vice-President in the teams announced in September 2020 and again on 17 August 2026.7
